TALENT HOTBED FOR NFL DRAFT

45 PLAYERS DRAFTED IN 2022

Throughout the 98-year storied history of the East-West Shrine Bowl, the legendary game has produced more than 500 NFL Pro Bowl appearances. In 2022, 45 East-West Shrine Bowl players were drafted, with the remaining signing free agent deals.

The 2022 East-West Shrine Bowl had an increase of 55% more draft picks from the previous game, and highest total in over a decade. This didn’t come as a surprise to anyone who watched the game itself — the outstanding talent was on display throughout the entire game.

And it will be again tonight.

“For 90% of these players and the NFL teams that might draft them, the East-West Shrine Bowl is the most important part of their draft process,” said Eric Galko, East-West Shrine Bowl Director of Football Operations and

Player Personnel. “It’s a chance for them to be among their peers, and it’s a chance for NFL executives to finally see these guys up close and personal.

In the East-West Shrine Bowl, America’s longest-running college football all-star game, which supports Shriners Children’s, senior prospects will showcase their skills in front

of NFL scouts and meet with representatives from across the NFL ahead of this spring’s NFL Draft.

This year, for the first time ever, the players will be coached by two full NFL staff teams, the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons, as they prepare to play in front of hundreds of NFL scouts, professional agents and media ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. The NFL coaches will provide East-West Shrine Bowl players with pro-level advisory and developmental opportunities. In addition, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Falcons head coach Arthur Smith are expected to be on hand throughout the week to see these top performers show what they can do.

“It’s an interesting time for a lot of these guys, because they are kind of college players but are also becoming pros,” Galko said. “It’s a

reat doorway into the rest of their careers, and we’re honored that in the process they get to learn more about Shriners Children’s and its mission.”

“This will be our second year holding the East- West Shrine Bowl in Las Vegas, and we’ve been thrilled with the opportunity it’s provided for our players and fans to enjoy a really unique and world-class football experience,” said Bob Roller, Director of National Sports Management for Shriners Children’s. “With the caliber of players who have committed this year, we’re expecting a great game and

a fun opportunity for fans to get an up-close look at some really talented athletes.”

Past greats to play in the game include Tom Brady, Walter Payton, Lawrence Taylor, John Elway, Gale Sayers, Jimmy Garoppolo, as well as current Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro performers AJ Cole and Darren Waller and current San Francisco 49ers standout Brock Purdy. The game boasts 78 former players who have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
